The entire OET exam is divided into four sections, the Listening section, which is 50 minutes long and consists of 3 parts; the reading section, which lasts 60 minutes and is divided into 3 parts; the job-specific writing section, in which candidates are required to write a letter of recommendation, and finally the final section; the speaking section that requires the candidate to play a healthcare setting.

Each section is scored individually and the overall score is the average of the score achieved in each section. Also, all sections have a pre-set standard pattern to ensure reliable and fair evaluation of all candidates.
With a total duration of 45 minutes, the listening subtest consists of a total of 42 questions, which are divided into 3 parts. Candidates would hear the recorded speech once and answer the questions as they did so. The overall duration of the exam would cover topics of general health concern in all health professions.
With a total duration of 60 minutes, the reading section consists of 42 questions, which are divided into 3 parts. Candidates would have to answer the question about generic health-related topics.
With a total duration of 45 minutes, the Writing section requires a letter from the candidate, usually a reference letter in his / her area of expertise. The candidate receives background information on their assignment, which they may or may not include in their reference letter. This particular job is job specific so while a nurse would have to write a special letter for nursing, a dentist would have to write a special letter for dentistry.
With a total duration of 20 minutes, the candidates have to individually re-enact their professional role in real scenarios in a professional health environment. In a job-specific exercise, the candidates have to role-play their job, while the panelist plays a patient in the first part and the roles are reversed in the latter. Candidates have 3 minutes to prepare for each page before the start of each act. The role-playing games are essentially based on simulated workplace situations that reflect the mood of the healthcare sector. Candidates would be given enough background information to prepare for their role-playing games.
For each of the sub-test that count up the OET exam , students receive a numerical score of 0-500 in 10 point increments. For example : 350, 360, 370 and so on.

A total duration of 45 minutes, the Listening consists of a total of 42 questions parted into 3 parts. Students would each hear the recorded speech once and would be expected to answer the questions while at it. The total duration of the exam would include dealing with topics of generic healthcare interests across all Medical Students.

A total duration of 45 minutes, the Writing section needs the students to write a letter, usually a letter of reference in his/her field of specialty. The stiudent will be provided with background information to his work which he may or may not incorporate into his reference letter. This particular task is work-specific, hence while a nurse would have to write a letter specific to nursing a dentist would be required to write a reference letter specific to dentistry.

A profession-specific exercise, students are required to roleplay their profession while the panelist plays a patient for the first part, and the roles are reversed in the latter. Students are given 3 minutes to prepare for each side before the start of each act. The roleplays are basically based on mock workplace situations that reflect the mood of the medical environmement. The students would be given enough background information to prepare for their roleplay sessions.

Candidates who have appeared for the exam can check their results on myOET portal. The exam is conducted every month, so the authority also announces the results after 15-20 days once the exam is over. OET results are available in the form of a scorecard.
